FINDING SOLUTIONS IN SUSTAINABLE FARMING

Tuckwell Farms comprises of 610 hectares in Framlingham, Worlingworth and Brundish, the heart of the Suffolk countryside. The 1st farm was purchased by Len Tuckwell in 1964 and today, Tuckwell Farms aims to become a centre of excellence where the best agronomic practices are applied using the latest in precision farming.

We want to share our findings and knowledge with our farming community, helping to marry up machinery that compliments the natural biodiversity of the land, and technology that balances the challenges and opportunities that farmers face today.

TRIALS SITES

We are thrilled to have partnered with Agrovista, a leading supplier of agronomy seed and crop protection products to establish a technical trial development site for wheat and rapeseed varieties.

Having a trial site on farm provides us with an excellent opportunity to learn more about varietal choices and behaviour, disease control and many more interesting aspects of Agronomy. The trial site aims to offer clarity and unbiased answers on the various crop protection and establishment methods to optimise returns while looking after soil heath to create long-term farm profitability.

Our first regional site trials tour in 2019 was a resounding success and we look forward to hosting our next round of tours on our rapeseed trials in 2020. Join our mailing list to be notified about upcoming trial events, or visit our events page.

COUNTRYSIDE STEWARDSHIP SCHEME

2019 saw the start of a mid-tier Stewardship scheme on the farm with over 40 hectares of wild flower margins established along with 13 hectares of winter bird feed. Over 100 hectares of cover crops will be planted yearly in front of spring crops. Several capital items including hedgerow coppicing, replanting and track installation will also be carried out over the next 2 years.

The Countryside Stewardship Scheme allows for us to take steps to include new sustainable and wildlife-friendly initiatives into our farm strategy and we look forward to sharing more about our progress as we continue on with these initiatives.
